German culture-110 is very
interesting and cultural course because you will have a good knowledge about
different topics which is covered most of the German culture. I learned such a
valuable information in this course included art, politics, sports, economy,
role of women, and other things about German culture from 18th century until
the present day. Also, one of the most things I like about this course is Blogs
because everyone in class is able to see any student work so it's help to have
a good background and learning more about your assignment. Baden-Wurttemberg is
the first topic i learned about in this course and Baden-Wurttemberg is one of
the sixteen states in Germany. The second topic i studied about is overview of
all German parties such as German Hanoverian Party, The National Socialist German Workers' Party
(Nazi Party), The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and Democratic Party
(SPD). After politics parties i started
to read 'All Quiet on the Western Front' Book because we have to do chapter
review and write about one of the main characters in the book. German Art is
one of the most topics i like about German culture because i worked in it with
my group for a couple weeks so I got good information about it. Before last
topic i learned about we watched three German movies which are Berlin Calling,
Baader-Meeinhof, and All Quiet on the Western Front. All of these movies were
interesting and the one i most like is Berlin calling. The last topic we talked
about is German food & holidays which were surprised me because there are
some similar dishes to what we have in my home town which is Saudi Arabia for
example Kebab. Finally, i really enjoyed this course and i recommend every student
to take it because you will have a good information and background about German
culture.

Baader-Meinhof
1-
They were not killing people
but they did make stand against the government by exploding government buildings
and bank robberies.
2-
They have been trying to
change the government by force which is totally wrong way in my opinion they
should make that change without exploding or killing people.
3-
Yes, Andreas Baader's played
a key role into the group's motivation and he usually make the group taking
action against the government and his behavior is very strong.

The yeastball (German food)
The yeastball is a traditional dish in the south and east of Germany and Austria. It can be enjoyed sweet as a dessert filled with fruits, or savory stuffed with meet and served with Sauerkraut. The yeastball is considered as a poor people's dish because it uses only a few and basic ingredients: flour, milk, salt, butter and yeast. The yeastball is originates in Bavaria.

Berlin Calling
1. What do drugs mean to Ickarus?
it's mean life, having fun, and to be able to deal with different issues for example his new album.
2. Why, when, and how are his fans taking drugs, and which drugs do they take?
They taking drugs to forget about problems and having fun and they taking drugs in the night clubs or parties at different time but mostly after midnight. Also, they taking different kinds of drugs such as cocaine, LSD, PCP, and math.
3. While we can see that his drug habits get him ill and into a psychosis, and while we witness his relapse and inability to work successfully, why does the subculture Ickarus is in focus on drugs?
The subculture focus on drugs because they thought drugs mean fun, stay awake, and get rid of the pressure.
4. Compare the standards you know from your home society with the people you see depicted in this movie. Which are the stark differences and contrasts?
In my home town the most used drugs are Marijuana and Captagon, but there are few people who drink alcohol and use cocaine. In Berlin is totally different story because they have a large number of people specially teens who are addicted to alcohol and different kinds of drugs.
5. Germany is considered a strong industrial nation the world over. Do you think that the youth culture as depicted here could change that? How about work ethics of Ickarus and of Alice, the label director who fires and then re-signs him?
Yes, for sure youth culture could change the industrial and everything such as economic, and military. Alice did hard work and gives lckarus many chances to change his behavior. The label director changed her thought about him after she listened to his new album.
6. Which similar "cult movies" of US origin have you seen, if any?
I have not seen any similar to" Berlin Calling " in US movies.
My reaction to the Berlin Calling is surprised and it was unlike what i was expecting because i never seen German movies and i was not have any idea about night life in Berlin. Drugs is really a big issue in Berlin and many of the young generation are addicted to drugs or alcohol. The good thing about the movie in my opinion is that getting a good information about how drugs are bad for everyone even if it make you feel happy and awake after used it but in a moment you may lose everything your job, family, and even your life. Finally, i will recommend my friends to watch " Berlin Calling " because they will get a good idea about Berlin life, music, and the bad effect of drugs.

My Reaction To The role of women
My Reaction to the role of women is very surprised because of the significant changes of the role of women from 18th century to present time. First of all women were not able to have all rights because they were second class citizens and at the same time men were first class citizens. The second significant changed is their right to work and the low salary rate comparing with men because they were able to work only in few jobs with very low wage. The last changed of the role of women in my opinion is their ability to role in politics because they were not able to vote or have a position in government but at the present day Angela Dorothea Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany and party leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

The most important thoughts about All quiet..Movie
The
story on the movie was more interesting and easier to follow than the book.
The
movie shows us how the life was difficult and suffering in World War 1.
The
actors were not professional but the movie was close to real life because you
can see real streets, buildings, and people nothing fake.
The
movie has good information about the kinds of weapons they used and the first aid during World War 1.
How
the elders deceived the young generation by making the solder as the strongest
man to involve them in the war.

Stanislaus Katczinsky
Stanislaus Katczinsky
Stanislaus Katczinsky cuts out the image of cunning, shrewd
and hard bitten man. He is forty years of age and assumes the role of
leadership for the group of soldiers composed of Paul Bäumer, Albert Kropp,
Haie Westhus ,Fredrich Müller , Tjaden and Detering. At the onset of chapter
one, his leadership traits are exhibited when he demands that the cook feeds
his group members despite the absence of other soldiers. Katczinsky fondly
referred to as Kat, is exuberantly smart and has earned the respect of his group
members (Remarque, Erich & Wheen). Kat exhibits his sharp intellect with
his crew on several occasions. For example, in one field mission, the group
lands at a nondescript location. The area is devoid of any basic necessities
and only has barren, wire meshed bed bunks for sleeping. The wire netting is
hard, and the soldiers’ sheets are too thin to be used as beddings. Moreover,
the troop has hardly had anything to eat. However, Kat in his characteristic
smart nature sets off with Haie Westhus in such of a solution. Minutes later,
Kat arrives with horse box full of straw to act as bedding material and making
the bunker beds more bearable to sleep in (Remarque, Erich & Wheen)
However, there is still one more problem affecting the
soldiers, hunger! The artilleryman scoffs at Kat’s question concerning the
whereabouts of a canteen in the vicinity. Once more Kat once sets off in his
impromptu exploration and to the astonishment of others; he arrives later with
two loaves of bread and a sandbag full of horse meat. This scenario just
illustrates the problem solving nature and never say die attitude that was an
embodiment of Kat’s character. Furthermore, it cemented the deep sense of
pride, respect and value that the group had for Kat.
The mannerisms and actions exhibited by Kat express a hint of
some German cultural traits. For example, he exhibits German choice delicacies
when he comes back with horse meat for his troop when they set the night in the
abandoned factory. The character of Kat embodies resilience, survival and
leadership in the war time theme synonymous throughout the novel.
Chapter Five
Chapter Five – All Quiet on the Western Front
The chapter begins with Paul and his friends killing lice by using their fingernails. One of Paul’s friends, Tjaden, makes a contraption out of the top of a boot-polish lid and a candle to burn the lice. Haie’s makes a joke about his lice because they have red crosses on their head so he says he must have got them at hospital where his lice attendee surgeon general. Haie’s then also makes a joke saying he’s going to use the fat from the lice to polish his own boots. This is the most funny to Haie, but not so much everyone else. The arrival of Himmelstoss has dampened everyone’s mood.
As everyone is spending hours talking and meditating, Albert shows up with a mess-tin of beans he’s scored for himself. This prompts Muller to ask Albert what he’d do if we were suddenly in peace-time. This brings Kat, Baumer and the rest into the topic. Albert even awakes Haie to ask him what he’d do if it was peace time. Haie eventually admits that he’d stay with the Prussians and serve out his time as a non-com. During their conversation, Himmelstoss appears, but they act as though they really hadn’t noticed him standing there. Himmelstoss engages them and is expecting respect as a superior officer, but instead, he and Tjaden get into a discourteous dialogue that ends when Tjaden moons Himmelstoss. Himmelstoss disappears in the direction of the Orderly Room and all bust out in laughter. Tjaden then makes himself scarce for when they come looking for him.
Muller brings the conversation back to Albert and asks again what he’d do if it were peace time. The discussion turns to their classmates and their teacher Kantorek. Some poking fun of their teacher is in order and brings on more laughter. Schooling and what to do after the war is talked about. They conclude that nothing will be the same after war and that the war has ruined them.
Soon the sergeant-major and Himmelstoss appear looking for Tjaden. Noticing he’s not there and no one telling where he is, it is ordered that Tjaden should return to the Orderly Room in 10 minutes. Tjaden is made aware of the order and disappears. The rest gather to play cards. That evening they each are called to the Orderly Room. Paul explains the bed-wetting incident involving Tjaden. In the end, Himmelstoss gets a lecture and Tjaden gets three days open arrest.
After an hour, Paul and Kat sneak to Tjaden and Kropp and play cards. When the card game has ended, Kat and Paul go off to get themselves a goose for roasting. For two cigarettes they get a ride to their destination and Paul agrees to get the goose. The getting of the goose didn’t go as smoothly as planned. After quite a ruckus and the meeting of a bull dog, a goose is thrown over the wall. The goose is roasted at once in a small deserted lean-to; this takes a long time and they take turns while the other sleeps. Paul feels very close to Kat and feels peace with his presence. Finally, the goose is done and they eat. The remainder of the goose is wrapped up and brought to Tjaden and Kropp. The feathers from the goose are kept too, and will be used to make pillows. Dawn is approaching and Kat and Paul return to their huts.

My work in German parties
Haitam Aldaij
September, 19
I have been studying and
searching about all German parties because i have to do general overview of all
German parties, present and past. I was not have any idea about German parties
or the government system until i start searching about it and I have been
focusing in three main topics which are German Hanoverian Party, The National
Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party), and leaders of German parties
after 1945. I found out Germany has Complex political system and passed several
stages the most important stages they passed are world war one, and two.
German Hanoverian Party is one
of the oldest parties in German. By the
Austro-Prussian War the party was founded to protest the joining of the Kingdom
of Hanover by the Kingdom of Prussia on December 31, 1869. Georg von der Decken
was the leader of German-Hanoverian Party in 1980. Finally In 1933 the party
dissolved by the Nazi regime.
The National Socialist German
Workers' Party (Nazi Party) (1920 – 1945) After world war one the party was
founded out of the far-right racist German nationalist. Nazi party has a
paramilitary culture and fight against communist revolution. Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party
from (1921–1945).
The last topic i studied
about was leaders of German parties after 1945. There are three main parties which
are The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) which
has the longest time in power from 1949- 1969 and from 1982- 1998, The
Christian Social Union (CSU) is the CDU's sister party and CSU only stands in
Bavaria, and Democratic Party (SPD) was the main government party from
1969-1982.
The group i worked
with was so helpful and easy to contact with them. We started working in the
topic which is general overview of all German parties, present and past on
Gmail share documents every one added different information about the German
parties then we collect the information we have tidily on PowerPoint. Finally i
learned a lot from this assignment especially the topics i did which are German
Hanoverian Party, The National Socialist German Workers' Party, and leaders of
German parties after 1945.

The state we are doing out of the sixteen is called Baden-Wurttemberg. The population and size is 10.75 million and the size is 35.752 km. We also wanted to present surrounding neighbors but with similar traditional cultures, and those are; Alsace, France, Switzerland, and Austria. One thing we as a group considered important is its history, in regards to how old it is, Baden-Wurttemberg is 60 years old. In addition to this residents mainly speak; Swabian and they also speak Badisch. For economic purposes its trading partner is Estonia and six others because of its access to the Baltic Sea and the Danube. Finally, we wanted to talk about interesting facts such as; it being one of the lowest levels of unemployment and it has one of the lowest crime rates in Germany. It is the home to the world famous Black Forest and the celebrated romantic city of Heidelberg.
